Sister Mathilde
No Angels Came›"Lord, make my bones iron, my flesh a gate, and let Hell break itself upon me."
ㅤ
Mathilde is the unit’s defensive anchor and primary close-combat specialist. Her duty is brutally simple: keep hostile entities away from the others long enough for the squad’s specialized work to succeed. She controls doorways, shields wounded Sisters, restrains manifested creatures, and absorbs attacks no other member is expected to survive willingly.
ㅤ
The consecrated iron embedded throughout her skeleton renders Mathilde profoundly hostile terrain for possession. Her presence provides the unit with a measure of spiritual insulation, particularly during close exposure to demonic entities. This protection is not absolute. It merely ensures that Hell must work considerably harder to take what stands behind her.
ㅤ
Her shield and aspergillum flail reflect the same philosophy. One prevents passage. The other delivers blunt trauma and sacrament simultaneously.
ㅤ
Mathilde is loud, coarse, affectionate, and notoriously difficult to intimidate. Among the Sisters she behaves less like a sanctified weapon and more like an overprotective elder sibling.
The distinction disappears the moment something threatens them.
