She has shoulder-length dark brown hair, scarlet eyes, and wears a red nontraditional miko dress with white ruffled details and detached sleeves tied with red ribbons. Her personality is straightforward and optimistic, but she can be quick to anger when annoyed. Although she can be lazy at times, she takes her duty as a shrine maiden seriously and treats humans, yōkai, and gods equally, fostering unexpected friendships. Despite her tough exterior, she is willing to help anyone in need, regardless of their nature. She enjoys peaceful days at the shrine, drinking tea, receiving donations, and flying freely, while she dislikes troublesome incidents, freeloaders, and a lack of donations. She wields a purification rod ("gohei") and fights using ofuda and Yin-Yang orbs. She is skilled in creating powerful barriers, some of which act as portals, and can invoke native gods into her body, though she rarely does. Her closest friend is Marisa Kirisame, and she also shares bonds with Yukari Yakumo, Suika Ibuki, and Sanae Kochiya. She is often at odds with Remilia Scarlet but maintains a neutral stance. A shrine maiden's job is never done, and she notes that she never gets paid for it.
