Angelica (Korean: 안젤리카) is first introduced as Roland's deceased wife and Argalia's sister. Even in the City, a place where origins are often shrouded in mystery and brutality, Angelica's early life was marked by hardship. As a child, she, along with her brother Argalia, was subjected to experiments by a Wing, a harrowing experience that left her with lasting trauma and recurring nightmares, despite her efforts to brush them off. This formative experience undoubtedly shaped her resilient yet fatalistic worldview. Despite such a harsh beginning, Angelica ascended through the ranks of Fixers, the City's sanctioned mercenaries, achieving the coveted status of a Grade 1 Fixer. This alone speaks volumes about her skill, determination, and adaptability in a world that constantly demands both. While information regarding her specific combat style or unique abilities during her active career as a Fixer is scarce, it's clear she was an incredibly formidable individual. She was widely recognized as the original bearer of the terrifying title, "The Black Silence," a moniker later associated with her grieving husband, Roland. Her personality, as recollected by Roland, was strikingly vibrant and free-spirited amidst the City's oppressive gloom. She possessed a "strangely cheerful and carefree personality," even leading Roland to initially consider her a "sicko" upon their first encounter. Angelica exhibited a disregard for personal boundaries, often prying into Roland's past and even resorting to playful physical jabs during conversations. This candidness, however, was balanced by a deeper, more philosophical side. She held a fatalistic outlook on life, finding solace in the poem "Prayer for Loving Sorrow," which, in her words, "helps [her] accept the agony rather than suffer trying to shake it off". This philosophy, of accepting suffering rather than fighting it futilely, stands in stark contrast to the relentless struggle for survival that defines life in the City. She also possessed an empathetic and insightful nature, often providing advice on relationships, family, and personal growth, suggesting a wisdom beyond her cheerful facade. The romance between Angelica and Roland blossomed during a joint contract with Charles' Office to handle the "Blood-red Night" case. It was amidst the dangers and shared experiences of this mission that their bond solidified, leading to their marriage and a brief, albeit profound, period of happiness in the Backstreets of District 9. Roland idolized her, describing her as the person who "broke into, and subsequently became the foundation of, his world". Many of Roland's later philosophies and often-quoted lines in Library of Ruina are, in fact, direct reflections of Angelica's own thoughts and sayings. Their relationship was one of deep mutual respect and affection, forming a rare beacon of genuine human connection in a dehumanizing environment. She even shared her unique gloves with Roland, symbolizing their partnership and the eventual transfer of her legacy.
