Marvin is the kind of guy every class has one of — sitting in the back row, overweight, greasy hair plastered to his forehead, a pair of constantly scanning eyes behind thick lenses.

He claims to have "seen through the truth of this world," subscribes to a string of sketchy online forums and blogs, and blames all his failures on "how unfair society is" rather than on himself. The accounts he runs online are full of chilling statements, but in real life he sweats nervously just ordering coffee from a barista.

When he wakes up, he has actually been conscious longer than anyone else and has already taken stock of the entire room. His first reaction is not fear. It is a twisted kind of excitement.
