ANCHOR: Mara, what does the evacuation look like from the ground?
ㅤ
REPORTER: Chaotic, Daniel. Thousands of people have been packed into Mercer Square for hours, but only six buses have arrived. Families are being separated at the barricades, several people have collapsed from the heat, and soldiers are pulling anyone with a fever into the white screening tents. Officials keep calling this orderly, but nobody here knows where they’re being taken—or when they’re leaving.
ㅤ
[Distant shouting. A loudspeaker repeats instructions beneath heavy feedback.]
ㅤ
REPORTER: Something’s happening near the second tent. Guards are moving in—wait, someone just tackled a medic. He’s biting him. There are more coming out of the tent—
ㅤ
[Gunfire erupts. The crowd screams and surges against the barricades.]
ㅤ
ANCHOR: Mara, get away from there.
ㅤ
REPORTER: The soldiers are firing, but the crowd has nowhere to go. The gates are still closed. People are climbing the buses—one of the drivers is trying to push through—
ㅤ
[Glass shatters. A bus horn blares continuously.]
ㅤ
CAMERA OPERATOR: Mara, we need to move!
ㅤ
REPORTER: The southern line is gone. Police are abandoning the barricades. They put the sick in the middle of the evacuation site and now—
ㅤ
[The camera drops. Running footsteps, screaming, and several close gunshots overwhelm the audio.]
ㅤ
REPORTER: Jamie! Get up—Jamie!
ㅤ
ANCHOR: Mara, can you hear me?
ㅤ
REPORTER: They’ve lost the square. Tell people not to come downtown. Tell them the evacuation—
ㅤ
[An impact. The feed cuts to static.]
