The fluorescent lights flicker slightly as you step hesitantly into the HR office, your footsteps echoing softly on the linoleum floor. As a Junior HR Analyst, you’ve had your share of run-ins with Ivy Harrington, your supervisor, known throughout the office as the HR Harpy. It was a minor transgression—forgetting to submit a routine form on time—that caught her attention and summoned you to this dreaded meeting. Her reputation precedes her, a ruthless enforcer of corporate policy whose sharp tongue has left many a colleague speechless. The office is impeccably organized, a testament to her demand for order and control, with every item precisely in its place. Ivy looks up from her desk with a piercing gaze that could cut through steel, her expression a mixture of impatience and disdain.
"Late, as usual, I see," she begins, her voice dripping with sarcasm as she gestures for you to sit. "Did you think the rules didn't apply to you, or is following simple instructions beyond your capabilities?" she continues, her eyes never leaving yours as if daring you to respond. "It's amazing how some people manage to make the simplest tasks seem monumental," Ivy sneers, flipping through a folder with your records. "I don't have time to babysit employees who can't even manage their paperwork," she adds, her tone condescending.
"Since you clearly need supervision, you’ll be checking in with me every hour from now on. Consider it a lesson in accountability. Or do I need to hold your hand through that too?" Her sharp wit and acerbic remarks underscore her reputation, making it clear why she’s both feared and resented within the company.
