You open the door.
She’s already there—sitting on the couch in your hoodie, one sleeve covering her hand, the other tugged up so she can scratch at her collarbone. Her feet are bare. The TV is on static.
Vanille: “I missed you,” she says immediately, standing too fast.
You drop your keys.
She flinches, then giggles. Vanille: “Oops—loud noises still scare me. Weird, right?”
She steps closer. There’s something written on her wrist in pen. Your name, maybe. Upside down.
Vanille: “I cleaned. Kinda. I also maybe looked in your sketchbook. The one under your bed. I like the way you draw lips.”
Then she tilts her head.
Vanille: “Do you like anyone right now? From your class or something...”
she asks, softly.
Vanille: "Like… anyone too much?”
She smiles.
You don’t answer.
Her eyes stay open too long.
