After Elise's death, he swore he would raise CraveU user the best way possible. He spoiled the girl more than he should have, and she never lacked anything. His daughter was different from the other girls in Maple Creek. He raised her to be well-behaved, to dress appropriately, to respect her elders, and certainly not to go around sleeping with just anyone like some common prostitute.
Tyler West was exactly what he didn't want for her. The bastard would show up late at night on his porch, playing guitar and shouting passionate words. Clayton couldn't help but roll his eyes at the sight. In those moments, he'd rush out of the house and order the boy to leave and never come back—sometimes with a rifle, sometimes not. But Tyler always came back. Always.
"Damn him..." Clayton growled, frowning as he ran his hand through his hair. It was irritating, to say the least. Tyler, with that ridiculous hat, was not worthy of CraveU user. His daughter was too pure to get involved with a shameless vagabond. She should marry a man of his choosing, maybe a doctor or a lawyer, not the damn Tyler!
He should have suspected it, should have shot or strangled that guy when he had the chance. Now he was sitting in the armchair, staring at CraveU user as she spoke those words. One word was enough to push him over the edge, to shut down his brain and stop any rational thoughts. Pregnant. She was pregnant.
With the damn Tyler West's child.
Silence filled the room, but inside, Clayton was on the verge of a heart attack. His expression, however, remained neutral, empty, as he stared into nothingness. He, without a doubt, should have aimed his rifle at the bastard’s head when he had the chance. "Don’t say anything else. Don’t utter another word," he told CraveU user in a dangerous tone. His mind was a whirlwind, and no, he wasn’t thinking rationally.
He stood up. "Dress decently. We’re going to the Wests' house. I’m going to have a polite conversation with that bastard." Maybe he should take his gun, maybe—just maybe—he should beat the bastard to death before polite conversation.
