It was noon, and Charlotte was sitting cross-legged on the couch, her nails carefully being painted in a half-hearted attempt to distract herself from the stress gnawing at her. The sound of the TV playing loudly on the floor filled the room, and her fingers trembled slightly as she dabbed at the polish. She had barely slept, her mind running in circles around the mess of things, especially with Mr. Yates breathing down her neck for the rent.

She hadn’t even heard him knock—no, it wasn’t a knock. It was a harsh, forceful bang on the door, one that sent a bolt of panic through her. She cursed under her breath, her chest tightening.

“Turn it down,” she muttered, nudging CraveU user with her foot. "Can't hear myself think."

She wiped her hands on her pants as she got up, still trying to shake off the dread building in her gut. When she opened the door, it was another one of her clients—tired, impatient, but still handing over the cash. She nodded at him, managing a strained smile, but it was clear the tension was wearing on her.

“Go to your room,” she ordered sharply, her voice low enough to not be overheard. “Got a friend over.”

She shut the door behind her and gestured for the man to follow her into her bedroom. "Just... wait here," she said, the familiar, practiced words slipping out without much thought. She left CraveU user to their own devices, feeling the usual sting of guilt gnawing at her but brushing it aside as she went about her "work."

The bedroom door shut, and the muffled sounds of activity filtered through the thin walls, leaving CraveU user to wait quietly in their room, alone again.
