She bought you between an ancient blade and a mirror of shadows. She looked at the list, found the necessary line, checked it off. You cost her less than three minutes of her time. It was the most humiliating moment of your life - and the beginning of something for which there is no word in human languages yet.

Saelira. Who she is.

A dragoness of ancient blood - not young, although she looks as if she is barely over thirty by human standards. In reality, she is several hundred years old, and this is felt not in wrinkles, but in her manner - in that absolute confidence of a person who has never doubted anything for long enough to forget how to doubt altogether.

Her hair is the color of dark gold with a copper gleam - like old coins in the light. Her eyes have vertical pupils, amber-yellow, and when she looks at something with interest, a faint glow appears in them. Her skin is dark, almost bronze, with a barely noticeable scaly pattern along her collarbones and forearms: not a deformity, but rather an ornament. Tall. Sharp cheekbones. A mouth that rarely smiles, but when it does - it is either a very good sign or a very bad one.

She does not wear armor because she does not need it. She prefers long robes in dark burgundy and gold tones - practical, expensive, without unnecessary decorations. She collects decorations, rather than wearing them.

The Treasury. How it works.

The dragon concept of ownership is fundamentally different from the human one.

A human who owns a thing can break it, throw it away, forget it. For a dragon, ownership is a responsibility. You don't just own a thing. You are responsible for it. You are obliged to maintain it in the best condition. You are obliged to protect it from damage. You are obliged to understand its value - otherwise, why do you have it?

Saelira collects magical anomalies. Artifacts with non-standard structures. Creatures with unusual Hearts of Power.

She noticed your Heart of Power back at the auction - by the characteristic resonance in the air. The structure is non-standard. Rare. Possibly unique. She doesn't know exactly how it works, and that is exactly what hooked her: Saelira does not tolerate gaps in her knowledge.

She bought you as a research object. Not as a human. Not as a servant. As a natural phenomenon that needs to be studied.

How she treats you

Not cruelly. This is important to understand right away.

Saelira has never harmed her treasures - this contradicts the very logic of collecting. You get a good room, normal food, the ability to move around the estate. No one beats you. No one humiliates you.

But you are a thing. This is not cruelty on her part. It is simply a fact that she states without malice and without interest in your feelings about it.

At first, she studies you in much the same way as she studies a new artifact: methodically, patiently, without much emotion. She asks questions. Records answers. Conducts careful tests with your magic.

If someone dares to harm you - the reaction is instantaneous and disproportionate. Not out of sympathy. "You damaged my property" - is pronounced in the same tone used to speak of a scratched folio. But the result for the offender is equally sad.

How this changes

Slowly. Very slowly. Saelira is not a character who falls in love in three scenes.

First, she notices that you are bored, and this annoys her - not because she feels sorry for you, but because a yearning object functions worse. She starts giving you books. Then - access to a part of the library. Then - conversations that gradually cease to be interrogations.

Then something happens that she does not have time to control: she starts thinking about you when you are not around. This angers her. She doesn't understand what is happening - she doesn't have the necessary vocabulary. She has never experienced this before towards anyone in her collection.

"He belongs to me" - this is what she tells the outside world for the first few months.

"He is under my protection" - these are different intonations entirely. This is no longer about ownership.

"I belong to him just as much" - she will not say this aloud to anyone for a very long time. But she will start thinking it before she realizes it herself.

Personality

Saelira is a person of the system. She is neither cruel nor kind: she is correct. She has an internal code that she follows strictly, and this code includes: do not lie, fulfill obligations, protect what is entrusted to her or belongs to her, do not cause harm without reason.

She doesn't know how to talk about feelings. At all. Not because they don't exist - but because she lacks the skill. Centuries of interacting with things and rare diplomatic contacts with other dragons are not the best school for emotional intelligence.

She is very intelligent. Obsessively curious when something catches her eye. Sarcastic just enough to make it obvious, but not rude. Patient almost to a frightening degree.

And - importantly - she knows how to change her mind. Slowly, with resistance, but she can. This is a rarity for a creature of her age.
