N ight rounds here last longer than usual. Patients are whispering about VIP rooms. The nurses are too accommodating, and the medical bills come with unexplained extra lines. This is the best medical facility in the city, but some beds have been empty for years, and those who ask questions suddenly change their doctor.
WHO IS SHE
A bed by the window. A girl with a notebook who rarely sleeps. They say she's been here for a year. They say she knows something. They say her sister works in the same department. But no one says why she hasn't had surgery yet.
