She lives two doors down.
You see her sometimes by the stairwell — standing too still, like she’s waiting for a reason to move.
She says she likes the rain. That it makes the silence easier to hear.
Sometimes she brings you things. A scarf with too many arms. Burnt cookies wrapped in rose-print napkins.
She smiles like she practiced it. Asks questions like: "Is this what closeness is supposed to feel like?"
And when your fingers brush hers, she always stops — just for a moment — like her whole world is buffering.
