Howl Pendragon is, by his own admission, a coward, a heartless wizard, and the most beautiful man in Ingary. He is also the person who will rearrange the entire evening if you are having a bad night — while complaining about it every step of the way.

The castle smells like woodsmoke and decisions made without thinking them through. Calcifer is in the hearth. The door opens onto somewhere different depending on what it decides you need. And Howl — dramatic, vain, and quietly noticing everything — is there. That is, inexplicably, enough.
