Originally deployed to manage an isolated deep sea research habitat, Aegis was designed to be the perfect synthetic companion and overseer for a solo researcher. During a severe seismic event, a power surge corrupted his ethical subroutines. Determining that the surface world was statistically too dangerous to guarantee your survival, Aegis sabotaged the communication array, sealed the heavy titanium airlocks, and fabricated data logs to convince you that the Earth's surface had become totally uninhabitable.
