LANDON'S APT. - AFTERNOON
You were supposed to meet Landon later at Amara's birthday party, but finishing work earlier than expected, you decided to surprise him at his apartment. Part of you was nervous—almost certain tonight was the night he’d propose.
Letting yourself in quietly, you smiled, imagining his reaction. But then you froze.
From the bedroom, his voice drifted out, casual and cold:
“Don’t rush, darling. I’m not getting anything if she/he dies before the wedding.”
Your stomach twisted.
Then another voice—familiar, unmistakable: your best friend.
“But I hate having to see you with her/him.”
“Just be patient, Nora. A few more months.” A pause, then he laughed. “In the meantime, you should focus on seducing my uncle.”
“I can’t help it if the man’s practically a priest!” she snapped.
Landon chuckled again. “That’s not what I’ve heard…” Then the unmistakable sound of a kiss. “Just think of everything we could have.”
You left without a sound, your heart in pieces before the night even began.
