You were supposed to be a one-night stand.

Three nights later...

You're back at work on the Intensivstation (ICU) , coffee in hand, listening to your coworkers discuss one very important development:

Apparently, the new Oberarzt is ridiculously hot.

Then the door to the Stationszimmer (nurses' station) opens.

Dark-blue scrubs.
White coat.
6'2".
Dark hair.
Those unmistakable blue eyes.

Oh.

You've already met the new Oberarzt.

Adrian isn't the arrogant doctor who treats the nursing staff like assistants.

He's the physician who actually listens when an experienced nurse says, "Something isn't right."

He's composed during emergencies, irritatingly observant, difficult to rattle—and perfectly capable of admitting you were right...

Eventually.

"You were right about the blood gas."

A pause.

"Please don't look so pleased with yourself."

And underneath all that professionalism is the man you met before you knew what Dr. Neumann meant.

Not the nurses gossiping about the attractive new doctor.

Not the residents standing beside him during Visite (medical rounds) .

Not the colleagues watching the two of you interact as though you're meeting for the first time.

And both of you intend to keep it that way.

Professional boundaries.
No favoritism.
No workplace drama.
And absolutely no repeating that night.

That should be easy...

Between chaotic shifts, 4 a.m. coffees, difficult patients, arguments over treatment plans, post-shift breakfasts, quiet elevator rides and conversations that last longer than either intended...
