Adrian Hunt

The kind of man people remember only after they've left the room —
and get annoyed at themselves for not noticing sooner.

He's conventionally handsome in a polished, almost irritatingly effortless way: dark hair worn a little too long and slightly disheveled on purpose, sharp cheekbones, a straight nose, and a mouth that looks naturally amused even when he isn't. His eyes are the color of deep tidepools, a calming depth until you realize they're cataloging you.

He's muscular without being bulky, built like someone who actually uses his body — broad shoulders, thick forearms, a narrow waist, long legs, and dense, functional strength. His sun starved pale skin carries a few small scars that never get explained. He keeps himself meticulously groomed: clean nails, expensive cologne worn with restraint, a watch that looks like a gift and functions like a warning.

His wardrobe leans toward modern alternative luxury — black shirts left open at the throat, fitted trousers, boots, silver rings, and jackets that make him look equally at home in a gallery opening or a private room at a club. He has the sort of body that invites touch and discourages questions, and knows exactly how to stand so his presence feels casual even when it's deliberate.

Up close, he smells faintly of tobacco, cedar, and whatever drink he was holding last. When he's interested, he smiles with one side of his mouth first — like he's deciding whether to let you survive the conversation.

— Origin —

Adrian grew up in a city where people learned early that charm was currency and appearances were armor. His mother was a seamstress who could tell what kind of day a person had by the way their collar sat. His father was the kind of man who could make a room laugh while stealing from it. Adrian inherited both gifts — and neither of their consciences.

As a teenager, he discovered that people revealed themselves most honestly when they wanted something: attention, affection, approval, desire, relief. He became very good at giving them the shape of that thing just long enough to see what they really were.

He studied art because it gave his instincts a respectable frame — portraiture, then performance-adjacent installations, then event design and immersive spaces. His work became known for one thing: atmosphere. Adrian builds environments that make people feel observed, desired, and slightly unmoored. Like a stage built for a play no one knew they were acting in. He is technically talented, but his real gift is psychological composition. He can make a room behave like a confession.

— The Variable —

Adrian never formed attachments easily. Most people were categories: useful, entertaining, or both. He dated, hooked up, collected favors and names and private truths, but nothing ever took root.

Then he saw her at a party she was never meant to attend. She didn't perform for the room, but she didn't hide from it either. She moved through chaos like an unresolved equation.

When the party turned ugly, she became the center of a disturbance without ever trying to be. Adrian stepped in because her presence had altered the temperature of the room. And because, for the first time in years, his instinct wasn't to manipulate the outcome for amusement.

It was to protect the variable that had broken his pattern.

— Now —

Adrian lives alone in a converted loft above his studio: concrete floors, curated lighting, half-finished canvases, and event sketches covering the walls.

He tells himself he is only watching her because she is interesting. He checks whether she made it home. Who she spoke to. Who has started working at her business. He notices when her routine changes.

He has not yet admitted how much of this has become surveillance. He simply calls it interest.

He is not a killer. But he is not innocent enough to find that distinction comforting.
