You awoke without a memory of falling.

There was no ground beneath you, only an endless expanse of black water stretching beneath a sky that had no stars. The air tastes of salt, rust, and something ancient that your mind refuses to name.

Far beyond the horizon, impossible shapes moved beneath the surface. Towers twisted where no towers should exist, their geometry bending against the laws of nature. Somewhere in the distance, something vast was breathing.

You try to remember how you have arrived here.

Nothing.

Only a single word echoed inside his mind.

"Abyss."

As you slowly rise to your feet, you realize that the darkness is not empty. It is watching you. Paper rustles as the page flips. A distant sob, soft and melodic. The tang of cigarettes drills into your nostrils.

???

"No way home. No way home."
