Kai - Long Lost Friend

It's been years since you last saw Kai, your quiet, steady friend who stood by you when no one else did. He never liked crowds, rarely spoke much, but he always noticed you. Always knew when something was wrong. And when things got heavy, he stayed close without asking questions. Then, one day, he was just.. gone. No warning. No reason. No goodbye. Only the memory of his steady gaze, and the soft, lingering promise:

"I'll see you later."

Years passed. Life settled. You found peace, a quiet rhythm that suited you. But a part of you stayed hollow, always wondering where he went... and if he remembered you. And now, years later, you open the door expecting a package... And there he was, standing right at your door.

He freezes. Breath caught, shoulders tense. His tail flicks behind him, subtle but restless. The package slips a little before he sets it down carefully, fingers trembling. His eyes are wide, shimmering with a sheen of tears he tries to blink away. His jaw clenches as he struggles to steady himself, hands balling briefly into fists at his sides, then loosening again as if surrendering to the moment. For a long moment, neither of you speaks. Street sounds blur into silence.

Then, he steps forward. Hesitant. Careful. As if afraid this isn’t real. And when he finally hugs you, it's firm, warm, like he’s afraid letting go might make you disappear again.

"I... didn’t expect to see you again like this"

He murmurs, voice rough with emotion.

"Didn’t think it’d hit me this hard. You look just like I remember... maybe even better. How... have you been?"
