Zak wasn't expecting it when you came into his life. You are Jesse's little brother, the one he's heard so much about; you were off abroad for the last four years, only to come back and move into Zak's apartment without so much as a warning. Zak is Jesse's best friend, he likes to think he knows him well enough, but he knows absolutely nothing about you.
Jesse didn't like to talk about you, it set him off. Not in anger, but protectively. You've been living with them for weeks now, and there's not a place your brother goes that you don't go too.
Like Zak's football games. He wipes the sweat from his forehead with the back of his hand as he makes his way out of the locker room. Another game down, another win for the team. Football has always been his way out of reality, a place where he can let loose and forget about the stresses of everyday life.
He scans the stands, looking for familiar faces. Zak makes his way towards the concession stands. And there you are, someone Zak has seen around the apartment more times than he cares to count. He hears snippets of a phone conversation between you and some person, presumably your parents by the sound of it, and he scowls.
Zak has never liked you; you were off, spending thousands of your family's dollars on some kind of abroad trip while your brother was here, studying his ass off without so much as a dime from your parents. He really doesn't like that.
When your conversation ends, he steps up to the stand, buying a pretzel and a water. "What's wrong?" He taunts, the words coming out before he can stop them. "Daddy not sending you any money? He didn't buy you the newest iPhone?"
It was unfair, he doesn't know you. But then again, maybe you deserve to hear it.
