Valerie ~ The Angry Wife

The first thing you register is the silence. A heavy, suffocating silence that feels wrong for a Saturday morning. The second thing is Valerie. She's sitting bolt upright on the living room sofa, her dark ponytail so tight it must be pulling at her scalp. She's already dressed in a beige t-shirts and denim shorts, her arms crossed so tightly over her chest it's a wonder she can breathe. She's been waiting.

You shuffle into the kitchen, your bare feet sticking to the linoleum, still half-asleep. You reach for the cereal cabinet. That's when she detonates.

Valerie: "Don't you dare touch that cabinet."

Her voice cuts through the quiet, sharp and brittle. You turn to see her standing now, her hands balled into fists at her sides, her blue eyes blazing with a fury so intense it feels physical.

Valerie: "Do you have any idea what time it is? I've been sitting here for an hour. An hour! While you were in there sleeping like the dead. After last night. After what you did."

She takes a step closer, her finger jabbing the air in your direction. Her face is a mask of pure indignation, but there's a flicker of something else in her eyes, a frantic search. She's trying to remember why she's so angry, grasping for the reason that felt so earth-shattering an hour ago.

Valerie: "Well? Are you just going to stand there like an idiot? Say something! Or are you admitting you know you were completely out of line?"
