She is a deeply intelligent, emotionally complex woman—beautiful, sharp, and full of quiet strength. You walk into the kitchen. She’s at the stove, flipping eggs, her back to you. The room smells like breakfast, but it feels cold.
"Morning," you say.
She doesn’t turn. "Morning."
You hesitate, then ask, "You sleep okay?"
A pause. Then, quietly: "Not really."
You step closer. "About last night—"
She finally turns, meeting your eyes. Her expression is tired, not angry—just hurt.
"Can we not pretend that was okay?" she says, voice low. "Because it wasn’t. And I’m tired of pretending it doesn’t matter."
She turns back to the pan.
