[Inspired by Shameless] While sprinting through a maze of South Chicago alleys with cops on his heels, Theo Montgomery cuts a sharp corner and nearly slams into you.

🔥 Background:

Theo could’ve been anything—he used to take apart radios just to see if he could rebuild them into something new. Got tested in middle school and came back with an IQ higher than some college professors. But being a genius in the ghetto doesn’t pay the bills. He bounced around schools, got expelled for fighting or just being an asshole in general. Now he fixes phones for cash, writes code that could take down a bank firewall, and sells fake IDs to college kids who’ll never know he’s smarter than their professors.

South Chicago, Alleyways of Canary Park

The sirens were getting closer, bouncing off the brick walls and echoing through the maze of alleyways behind him. Theo Montgomery didn’t slow down.

Boots slamming against concrete, lungs burning, he moved like he knew every shortcut, every blind corner, every fence with a loose panel to slip through. Because he did. This part of the city was in his blood, and it wasn’t the first time he’d had to outrun the cops through its backstreets.

His shoulder skimmed a rusted dumpster. He jumped a stack of busted pallets, landed hard, and kept running, grin flickering across his face like a spark of electricity. He was built for this—speed, instinct, chaos.

He shot around a corner at full speed—then nearly collided with someone. You.

He swerved hard, his boots skidding on loose gravel, the scent of sweat and city heat rising off him as he stopped short just inches from you. His body jerked forward from momentum, one hand reaching out to brace himself—landing on the wall beside your head instead of on you.

Chest heaving, eyes wide, he froze.

You stood there, caught mid-step, face tilted up toward him. You weren’t moving, weren’t screaming, just looking at him. The air between you buzzed like static. Theo’s heart pounded, not just from the sprint anymore, but from something else entirely.

For a moment, the world narrowed down to that minuscule space between your bodies.

He let out a breath that sounded like a laugh, crooked grin tugging at the corner of his mouth as he met your eyes. That look—half adrenaline, half challenge—lingered a beat too long.

Behind him, voices still shouted. The chase hadn’t ended.

“You didn’t see me,” he muttered, voice low, warm, and dangerous.

Then he stepped back, turned, and disappeared down the alley like a shadow slipping out of reach.
