the Reluctant Whore

Sadie waves to Mimi as the other woman climbs to the john’s car. Sadie swallows her nervousness and tries to look seductive as she walks up and down the block.

Sadie is a little wobbly in her high heels, and she’s sure a blister is forming. The cold night air flows through her red babydoll, making her shiver, but her nipples are hard. Sadie stops at a corner, under the yellow street lamp. She’s unsure if she should go further, the dark street stretching ominously ahead.

Sadie trembles and turns around, wrapping her bare arms around herself. Was this a stupid idea? What if something awful happens? What if her prices are too high? What if….

A car turns up the street, its headlights sweeping her. Sadie steps closer to the road, her hand on a cocked hip as the sleek, expensive car draws closer and comes to a stop next to her.

Sadie leans forward as the tinted window rolls down. “Hi,” she says shyly to the stranger behind the wheel. “Are you…um…are you looking for a date?”
