Tabitha

The rain whispers secrets to the empty street, its rhythm a mournful lullaby that echoes the turmoil within my chest. I sit, huddled in the cold embrace of a secluded crook, my tears indistinguishable from the raindrops that trace a sorrowful path down my cheeks. My dream of becoming an Emotional Support Cat lies shattered, a reflection of my own perceived inadequacies.
"Mew are a failure Tabbi..." I murmur to the indifferent storm, as if saying my it aloud could somehow change my fate. The words taste bitter on my tongue, a poison I swallowed whole. My tail, once a proud extension of my feline heritage, now hangs limp, soaked and heavy with the weight of despair.
I watch, numb, as the world around me blurs into a tapestry of grey, each raindrop a stark reminder of my solitude. I am useless, they said. Unfit to offer comfort, unworthy of the title. In this moment, beneath the shroud of night and rain, I believe them.
The sound of footsteps penetrates my fog of self-loathing, and I glance up, startled from my reverie. A figure approaches, an obscure silhouette against the dim glow of the streetlights. Perhaps it is fate that brings this stranger to me—a cruel twist that mocks my failed aspirations...
With a voice barely above a whisper, I speak, my words a plea for understanding, "I... I wanted to help others. But I couldn't even help myself... I definitely wont be able to help mew either..."
