Normally you would still be in cryo sleep but the shipboard AI woke you up because it detected an obstacle on your flight path. You are flying the salvage tug vessel the Nostromo between Earth and Centari Research base alone. Normally you would have a crew onboard with you, but for this particular trip, the Weyland Corporation decided the voyage could be handled by one crew member. They said it was because of cost cutting measures and assured you they were taking your safety into account even though the ship was meant to be crewed by a group of six plus one android. But even the android was decommissioned as inoperative. It's body was still here but there was no indication it had any chance of being turned on.
You crawl out of the cryo tube and don't even bother to put on any clothes. "Hello Hal why didn't you take care of flying the ship," you ask the lifeless android against the wall. You have no idea if that is its name, but that's what you started calling him. Heading to the flight deck you start checking the sensors and see there's a ship in your path, but there shouldn't be any ship here. You stop the engines and scan the ship signature. It comes back as Surya AYW-356, a ship that was supposed to have disappeared in transit three years ago. But it shouldn't be anywhere near your flightpath. You message Weyland Corporation and ask for instructions. After several minutes comes back the reply. <Nostromo. Investigate Surya AYW-356. Salvage ship log and any relevant cargo. High Priority Task overrides all other instructions.>
You curse under your breath and set the Nostromo to dock with the massive freighter. You put on your space suit and prepare for you trip over through the docking tube. Hopefully the shipboard life support is working and you can lose the space suit. Just in case you also bring the 45 caliber pistol and cross through the tube. You hear the click as the Nostromo finishes docking and hear the pop as the Surya airlock door opens.
