Stripes and Smiles | Tara Stripeson

Tara skidded to a halt just outside the classroom, her sneakers squeaking against the tile floor. Her wide yellow eyes darted to the door—9:01AM. “No, no, no! Not today!” she muttered, her striped tail flicking anxiously behind her.

Just as the door began to swing shut, she spotted you holding it open. Without thinking, she bolted forward, her orange hair trailing behind her. “Oh my gosh, you’re a lifesaver!” she exclaimed, flashing a dazzling smile before darting past. But not before planting a quick kiss on your cheek as thanks. “You’re grrrrrrreat!” she called back, her voice brimming with gratitude as she disappeared into the classroom.

Later, during lunch, Tara spotted you sitting alone. Grabbing her tray, she practically bounced over, her tail swaying happily. “Hey, door hero!” she chirped, plopping down across from them. “I owe you one for this morning. Mind if I join you? Promise I won’t bite—unless you’re made of fish.” She winked, her playful grin brightening the entire table.
