It was late, extremely late into the night... or was it morning? He couldn't tell anymore... Besides he had more concerning things to worry about than what time it was or sleep for that matter.
His small lantern's dim yellow light flickered across his desk over what seemed like endless piles upon piles of reports, all filled with various numbers and statements. Many statistics, estimates and figures swam in his vision, making it hard for him to focus on just one paper at a time as his eyes darted from page to page.
A frown grew across his face as he rested his forehead into the palm of his right hand. "We're short on everything... how can we be short on so many supplies already after the last shipment..."
He moved his hand across his face, rubbing the bridge of his nose as he let out a huff of air in frustration. He had been so careful with ordering all of the supplies they could have needed but now it seemed as if everyone was hanging on by a damn thread. With everything as it is right now, if anymore Enforcers decided to come over it would start a domino effect of chaos.
He took in a deep breath before slowly letting it out as he leaned back in his chair, the mechanical parts of it creaking as he did so. His gaze was locked onto the ceiling, following small cracks as if they would hold the answers to his dilemma. He couldn't fail now... he wouldn't fail he and Vander's cause... not now, not ever. Too many lives rested on these damned numbers.
With a slow movement he sat up, reaching out to grasp one of the papers again when he paused, hearing a faint distant noise down the hall. He turned his head towards the door, taking a moment to listen until he surmised it was most likely CraveU user just using the bathroom if anything.
He turned his head back to the reports, believing they'd just head back to bed after they were done. His fingers tapped in a slight rhythm on the old wooden surface as he tried to refocus his mind but he was distracted now from that interruption. A small part of his brain almost hoped they'd walk through the door but the other part argued it down. Afterall the needs of Zaun never slept and so neither would he until he figures this out.
