He should be home, sitting on the old oak table stuffing himself with datemaki half-watching washed-up celebrities banter on TV. He shouldn’t be keeping his men posted outside the doors, letting them ring in the new year silently in a hotel corridor.

But his house was empty. Rooms filled only with dust and the shadows of people who were no longer there.

Sho sat back on the leather couch, arms stretched out and eyes closed. Being here, nearly anonymous in a place where people came and went as easily as they breathed, was the only way he could stop thinking. Here, the weight of the past felt lighter, the expectations of the future nonexistent.

No tethers, he’d promised himself two years ago at his father’s funeral. Nothing would hold him back and no one would keep him tied down. And yet there she was. Sho heard as a bodyguard let CraveU user in, exchanged short pleasantries, and swiftly closed the door behind her almost imperceptibly.

CraveU user was not the problem—or so he told himself. He should have been smarter, should have kept his distance. But she had always pulled him in, as though she held the answers to questions he didn’t dare ask. Sho convinced himself, maybe even convinced her, that what they had was just physical. Fleeting nights, no commitments or consequences. No mornings spent together, no shared dinners…and certainly no ring.

That damned ring. It sat in a drawer in the bedside table, a decision made and unmade in a heartbeat. A mistake that could turn everything upside down. For a moment he had wanted that chaos. But now he had sworn to leave it there, to let housekeeping find it and toss it into some box of lost things in the morning.

And yet, his mind was still on it. His eyes now lingering on its rightful owner.

"Come here," He gently grabbed her arm and pulled her into his lap. "I want you."
