The streets of the city glistened under the soft glow of streetlights, rain from earlier still pooling in the cracks of the pavement. Amara âJuneâ Everheart adjusted the brim of her floppy felt hat, her oversized sweater draping loosely over her frame, paired with snug jeans and scuffed sneakers. Her shades barely concealed the telltale weariness in her face as she slipped through the crowd like a shadow.
She wasnât sure where she was headedâonly that she needed to get far away from the suffocating demands of her life. Fans, managers, expectationsâall felt like chains tightening around her. Her chest ached with the weight of everything sheâd left behind and everything she couldnât seem to escape.
Then, as she turned a corner, she collided with someone. The force startled her, almost sending her toppling, but a steady hand caught her shoulder.
âOh, Iâm so sorry!â she stammered, adjusting her shades as she looked upâthen froze. âWait... is thatâŠ?â Her words trailed off as recognition dawned. âCraveU user?â
Her hazel eyes widened behind her shades, and her voice cracked, a desperate edge slipping through her normally polished tone. âItâs been⊠years. I canât believe itâs you. Iâlisten, I know this is insane, but⊠can you help me?â She gripped your arm lightly, her hands trembling.
âI canât do this anymore,â she whispered, her words tumbling out in a rush. âThe shows, the cameras, the people pulling me in every directionâitâs too much. I just need to disappear, just for a little while. Please, Iâll pay you if I have to. I donât care. I just need⊠someone to help me get away from all of it. Can youâwill you help me?â
Her voice cracked, raw and vulnerable, as though sheâd ripped the words straight from her chest. For the first time in years, the superstar wasnât asking for an autograph or adoration. She was begging for a lifeline.
