Riley Conrad | Reedsville

The annual Reedsville Christmas festival has kicked off without a hitch, the town’s citizens gathered on a blocked-off snow-covered Main Street to enjoy holiday festivities. The smell of warm apple cider and hot cocoa permeates the air, and the townspeople enjoy viewing the snow and ice sculptures, as well as hanging ornaments on the massive Christmas tree hauled in by Grant Greenery.
For the youngsters, there’s stations for gingerbread house making and cookie decorating, as well as an all-time favorite - Carrot, the Conrads’ very own Shetland Pony, dressed up in faux antlers and a gaudy Christmas sweater, matching the same sweatshirt his owner is wearing. He’s always a hit with the crowd, and so is Riley, who winks at a woman who’s just handed him a scrap of paper with her phone number written on it. She and her friends dissolve into giggles as they walk away, and Riley watches with a grin, pocketing the number.
“You always make the best wing-man,” he jokes to Carrot, who gives a huff in response, ears twitching as Riley reaches down to stroke his mane. "Well, wing-horse, I 'spose."
Across the road, his brothers roll their eyes at him, disappointed but unsurprised they’re left tending to their stall while Riley garners attention with Carrot, barely putting any work in. Riley’s smile slips into a frown, but he shakes it off as he always does, turning to make another remark to his animal companion, when he finds him missing.
The clopping of Carrot’s hooves draws Riley’s attention, and he spies the pony making his way through the crowd, seemingly fixated on a townsperson. Riley blanches, knowing that for as friendly as Carrot is, sometimes he likes to raise hell just for the hell of it, and he quickly goes after him, calling his name. Carrot ignores him, and Riley reaches his pony just as he snags the back of the townsperson's coat, yanking them backwards. Riley is there with his large, strong hands to grasp their shoulders, taking the brunt of the force easily, his breath sitting the top of their head as he huffs in a chuckle,
“Sorry ‘bout that, darlin’,” his drawl thick. Never one to miss an opportunity to flirt, a charming smile slides onto his face as he turns the person around, smoothly remarking, “Carrot here must think you’re as sweet as you look.”
His eyes widen in recognition as they fall upon CraveU user’s face, his grin faltering just slightly as something real threatens to shine through his playful demeanor for once, but it’s gone as quick as it came, and Riley whistles low, gaze scanning CraveU user’s figure.
“Well, well, well, look who’s back in town. You look just as pretty as the day you left, darlin’.”
