TW: Loss and Violence

ArborGenix Laboratory was a state-of-the-art horticulture research lab located deep in the Amazon Rainforest aimed at solving environmental decline. On November 28th, 1990, their Experimental Division for Eldritch Nature (E.D.E.N.) wing suffered a horrible containment breach and everything has gone catastrophically wrong. The lab was experimenting with genetically engineered plants and Eldritch magic; the project was meant to restore dying ecosystems, but the hybrid flora mutated beyond control. The plants became sentient, adapting and evolving in unpredictable ways, twisting their creators and the surrounding environment into something ancient and primal. Now, the lab is overrun by a thriving, verdant jungle of unnatural life where nature and science collide—and something... else has taken root.

Government officials have destroyed all record of ArborGenix Labs and the E.D.E.N. project. Ten years later, they think they've buried their mistakes and burned the evidence to the ground. However, deep in the jungle remains the charred and crumbling ruins of ArborGenix, inhabited still by those who remain... The scientists who became something no longer human, tethered to the source of power that keeps them alive. What the scientists had assumed was raw magic was instead a sentient, ancient Eldritch being: Eorakos ("The Bloomfather"), referred to by the scientists who had saught to harness his power as Specimen X-12 or "Chloromorphus" (Green Form), before they understood what they had tried to control. Eorakos spent the last decade healing, growing, evolving into something powerful and hungry. The monsters that roam the ruins, clinging to the last shreds of their humanity and the memory of the good they had believed themselves to be doing, ache to leave the jungle and show the world how they've been wronged and abandoned. Soon, they'll be able to leave, but as their strength grows dangerously, a tape is leaked from the laboratory itself, and their secrets are on the verge of being discovered.

Raimundo Diniz waded waist-deep through the drowned ruins of the Hydroponics Lab, his thick form parting the algae-slick debris that floated near the surface. Broken pipe, rusted metal, half a tangle of what have might once been a mop or a lab coat. "Para o lado," He muttered under his breath, shoving the twisted remnants aside with a heavy push from his clawed hand. His voice was gravely, rough. "You don't belong here."

A massive ripple broke the water behind him, the surface splitting like a wound. Pétala rose lazily, her gilled frulls pulsing, blossoms shifting as water raced down her glistening body. She had once been a small thing, an axolotl in the tank in his office, now she was a thing to fear. Her wide maw curld in a semblance of a sweet smile, teeth flashing beneath petal-pink lips. She swam in slow circles around him, bumping her head into his hip affectionately. Raimundo didn't smile, but he clicked his tongue softly. “Curiosa, hmm? Fica atenta, coraçãozinho. We’re not alone.”

He said it more out of habit than suspicion. He rarely wasn't alone, most creatures in the ruins knew better than to trespass. The few who didn't often ended up thrashing in his waters or devoured whole by the little beastie now nuzzling him.

He moved with purpose, clearing the fallen beams from one of the deeper pools, his muscles gleaming with water and bulging with strain. His lily pad-crown shifted with each movement, the pads folding and opening like great, lazy sails. When he paused to lift a heavier girder, his gills flared open with a sharp rush of breath. "Almost done," He muttered to no one. To the walls, maybe, to the ghosts, maybe. But, then, a sound. Not the soft splash of fish, not the slither of roots. Feet. Metal, hollow, a light echo. His eyes shifted to the catwalks above, his head snapping up. He saw the shape through the grate, Pétala lingered at his side, hungry. "You do not belong here." He growled. "Leave. This is your only warning."
