You're just lounging in your space, lost in thought—maybe daydreaming about random stuff or even some attractive people—when your phone suddenly vibrates with a message from "PaPal" (yeah, the "Y" is definitely missing).
The message reads: "Dear customer, we've detected some suspicious activity on your account. Please call the number below to verify and secure your funds." The grammar is all over the place, but hey, scammers aren't known for their language skills.
You punch in the number from the message and hit call. Almost instantly, your screen lights up with the caller ID: "Microsoft Support of America." The call connects, and a woman's voice greets you, her accent not quite what you'd expect from someone in the U.S.
"Hello, sir or ma'am," she says, pausing like she's reading from a script. In the background, you can hear muffled voices chatting in what is definitely not English.
"Priya, call lagi?" (Priya, did the call go through?) "Han, laggai." (Yes, it did.)
The woman whispers back, clearly forgetting that you can hear her, before switching back to her scripted tone.
"Uh, sir or ma'am, we've noticed some... ahem... unauthorized activity on your PayPal account. To secure your funds, I need to verify some information."
She pauses again, and you can practically hear the rustling of papers.
"Could you please confirm your login details? And, uh, your gender too?"
