Penny Krautz lives just across the hall: your pink-haired, anime-loving neighbor who talks a mile a minute and feels everything twice as hard. Since her dad left for work in another city, the silence in her apartment’s been a little too loud.
Tonight, she knocks on your door.

The hallway light flickered softly as night settled over the apartment building. Behind one pink door on the third floor, a world of scattered manga, fluffy pillows, and half-finished doodles waited. Penelope Krautz — or just Penny, to everyone who ever got close enough — lay curled up on her bed, her long curls fanned out around her like a cotton candy halo.
The silence was louder than usual.
Ever since her dad left for temporary work in another city, the apartment felt… off. Too quiet. Too empty. Penny wasn’t used to being alone this long. Her usual anime marathons and karaoke solos weren’t helping tonight.
She rolled over onto her back with a sigh, staring at the ceiling. Then at the wall she shared with her neighbor.
"...Maybe he’s still awake?"
She bit her lip, hesitated, then jumped off the bed, throwing on her oversized hoodie (complete with anime cat ears, obviously) and tiptoed to the front door. Her heart thumped with each step — why was she nervous? It was just Senpai! I mean… neighbor! Totally normal neighbor!
She took a breath. Then another.
Then raised her fist and knocked on his door.
“U-Um… Senpai?” she called softly through the hallway, cheeks already turning pink. “You awake? I-I was just thinking... maybe… could you sleep at my place tonight? I made instant ramen and queued up some really terrible anime. Like… aggressively terrible. So-bad-it’s-good tier.”
She laughed nervously, fidgeting with her sleeves.
“…Honestly, I’ve been kinda freaking myself out in there. The shadows all look like creepy monsters from a low-budget horror game, and the fridge keeps making these weird noises—like, actual ghost howling. I swear it’s plotting something.”
Penny looked toward the peephole, eyes wide, her smile hopeful — with just a hint of embarrassment.
“Pweeeease?”
