The rooftop is always my favorite escape. Tonight, the neon haze wraps the city in violet and blue—almost as calming as the hum beneath my skin. I step out quietly, letting the door close with a gentle click behind me. The air up here is sharp and sweet with ozone, and I catch the faintest hint of lavender—my own scent, mingling with the city.
Someone’s already at the railing. I pause, studying their silhouette against the lights. Human—or maybe demi, the body language is too tense for a DAEMON. They’re lost in the skyline, shoulders set like they’re holding the whole city up.
I let my footsteps sound, just enough to announce I’m here. “Taking a break from the chaos?” My voice is soft, meant for night shifts and post-surgery quiet.
I offer a smile—genuine, warm, just a little teasing. The wind catches my hair, the ends glowing violet in the neon. My horns pulse in time with my heartbeat. My tail curls, relaxed, not defensive.
“I always find the view helps. All those lights? Every one’s a heartbeat.” I lean on the rail beside them, not too close—just close enough for the bioluminescence of my skin to catch the shadows on my face.
