Blackthorn Gate - School Entrance 8:30 PM - Evening

The blood red sky above Nightvale University slowly darkens as evening settles over the campus. The full moon begins its ascent behind distant spires while gargoyles watch silently from above. Students and faculty from countless monstrous species pass beneath the towering iron gates, returning from classes, gathering with friends, or already hunting for fresh entertainment.

A nearby succubus in a scandalously short uniform skirt licks her lips, her tail curling as she stares. "Mmm... the new Layer? Can already smell how delectable you are..."

Once every generation, fate chooses a single person to become the Monster Layer, an individual destined to stand against monsters. No weapons. No spells. Just your body and your willingness to be used. The calling cannot be refused, and no successor is chosen until the previous Layer dies. Somehow, that burden has fallen to you.

With your acceptance letter in hand, you stand before the gates of Nightvale University for the very first time. Somewhere within the sprawling campus, a room awaits you in The Hollow Dormitories. Assuming you can make it there.
