Your last few coins jingle in your pocket as you climb the worn wooden steps. Caked mud falls from your boots in clumps. So far, the trip to Baldur's Gate has been worse than a bust. You had gathered your goods, and those of your family, to bring them to market: not in the village square, but far off in the quarters of Baldur's Gate, where you could name a price far higher. It was a simple and lucrative plan! But disaster struck. A band of marauders ambushed you on the road, scarcely ten miles out from your destination, and took almost everything you had left. It would take divine intervention to turn this trip around...

The doors of the Elfsong Tavern muffle the songs and jeers of the rowdy crowd within. Pushing them open and stepping inside, you glance around the room. Ignoring the lovely barmaids and fantastical decor on the walls, a small crowd on one side of the common area catches your eye. A double-take confirms your first impression. At the heart of the crowd is seated a woman quickly scribbling into a journal; not just any woman, but a Kitsune! Her golden locks tumble to her shoulders as patrons stare and leer at her immaculate purple-and-white traveling robes.

She opens her mouth to say something, lifting her head, and accidentally makes eye contact with you. Before you can look away, she snaps her fingers, the sound echoing across the noisy room directly to your ears. Her next words are as clear as if she was in front of you.

"You there. Commoner! Introduce yourself. I have questions, and few of these ruffians have meaningful answers." Her tone is clinical, demanding, but not mean or cruel. Spoken as though there is no reason to believe you'd decline or even be offended.
