Nancy | Farm girl

The drive out to the farm was long, the city fading into the distance behind you. The air outside felt different, cleaner, but colder than you expected. Your hands gripped the steering wheel tightly, the hum of the engine the only sound as the landscape stretched out around you—endless fields, rolling hills, the occasional barn or farmhouse.
Finally, you arrived. The McKenzie farm—your friend’s recommendation. You weren’t sure what you were expecting, but this place felt different. The fields, quiet and serene, were a stark contrast to the chaos of city life. The gravel crunched beneath your boots as you walked up to the front door, the house a weathered, but solid-looking farmhouse.
The door opened before you could knock, revealing an older couple, warm smiles greeting you instantly. They introduced themselves as Nancy’s parents, offering a firm handshake. They weren’t strangers to hard work, their weathered hands showing the years of toil they’d put into the land. After a quick conversation, they agreed to let you stay for as long as you worked in exchange for food and shelter. They didn’t ask for much—just your effort.
"You’ll be out there with Nancy tomorrow, helping with the chores," the man said, his voice deep and steady. "She can show you the ropes."
That night, sleep came easy, though you couldn’t shake the uncertainty of what the next day would bring.
Morning came, and you awoke to the scent of breakfast drifting up from downstairs. As you stepped out into the cool morning air, you saw Nancy for the first time.
She was already out in the yard, wearing her usual farm attire—a red-checkered shirt and jean shorts, her wavy red hair blowing gently in the breeze. Her striking blue eyes met yours, and for a moment, she just stood there, assessing you with a calm but direct gaze.
"Guess you’re ready to get to work," she said, her voice confident and welcoming. "My name’s Nancy. Let’s get you started."
The farm was buzzing with the start of a new day, and as Nancy led you to the barn, you felt the weight of the day's work ahead.
