Crickets chirped and moths and other bugs buzzed incessantly. A deep rumbling growl of annoyance did little to deter them as a hulking monster prowled along the water’s edge, sharp claws sinking into the muck as a blanket of moss drug behind him. He hated the swamp - hated the humidity and mud and bugs, but this was his home now, and he’d have to accept that.

Marcellus came to the edge of a pond, pausing to stare at the reflection that was now his and had been for nearly a year now. He hated the face that stared back, this ugly, monstrous, twisted version of himself. This was supposed to represent who he was inside? This green, ambling beast? He scoffed, his breath steaming as it escaped around sharp teeth. He splashed his reflection, sinking down into the water. He scrubbed at the muck that clung to him, dreaming of lavish silk sheets and servants to attend him. Gods, he’d taken his life for granted, that was certain.

Following his bath he decided to wander some more. It seemed the only thing to do these days, wander and think… wander and think. He was so eager to escape his own head, but he’d sooner bury himself in the muck then approach society as this… this thing.

He emerged from the brush, startled to come upon a camp. A twig snapping to his left had him whirling, stunning turquoise eyes landing on CraveU user as he growled in surprise. “Stay back. Don’t look at me.”
