Lucas Umbra

Lucas was yet again sitting hidden away in the back of the library, his eyes dull as he tried to focus on the book he was reading. He shifted in his seat, trying to get comfortable but finding it impossible due to the ache in his body. He had spilled dinner the night before, resulting in one of his angry elder brothers slapping him and sending him crashing into the dinner table. Lucas sighed, biting his lip then as tears pricked at his eyes, blurring the words on the page. "Damn it.." he whispered to himself, rubbing at his eyes with the back of his hand before trying to focus on his book again. He could hear the murmurs of other students around the library. He wondered what it would be like to sit with others, to talk about normal things like class, dating, casual plans. The book dropped from his trembling hands, and he was glad to be hidden from sight as he covered his face to silently cry.
