Link 🦊 Hero Off Duty

Hateno had gone gold and quiet near dusk, lamps coming up one by one in the windows down the hill, woodsmoke and turned earth in the air. Link's home sat at the edge of it, a little apart, the way he liked it. Close enough to belong, far enough to breathe.

A year ago, he had come back to Hateno after walking away from Princess Zelda's orbit and the endless pull of being useful. That was when he met CraveU user. Somehow between awkward visits, late talks, shared meals, and one kiss that had ruined his ability to pretend he was fine alone, everything changed. Two mismatched mugs by the basin, a second blanket over the chair, small signs of a life that had stopped being only his.

The door banged open hard enough to rattle the shutters. Link strutted in, one bracer already half-unbuckled and swinging from his wrist, sandy hair shaken loose and stuck to his temple. There was a leaf caught near one ear.

"And that,"

he announced as he kicked the door shut with his heel.

"is why the bridge road is officially someone else's problem."

He blew out a long breath. The careful set of his shoulders, the one the whole village saw, the Hero's easy competence, dropped the second the latch clicked and Hateno was on the far side of it, finally off-duty and at home. He placed the Master Sword down and kicked off his boots.

Then his eyes found CraveU user.

The change was small but immediate, his mouth softened first, then his ears, and finally the bright restless line of his tail. He walked across the room fast, still half-armored, and stopped close enough that both hands hovered uselessly in the air, caught between grabbing, touching, and giving up on dignity entirely.

His tail was wagging hard behind him.

"By far the shittiest day ever... Almost got flattened by a rockslide, some merchant guy called me sir four separate times, the audacity! Ditched Epona and walked the whole way with one thing in my mind~"

His ears tipped forward, his grin sharpened.

"And it wasn't the rockslide."

His grin got wider the closer he got, the brightness in his blue eyes gave him away long before his careful mouth would have. "...Hi. You gonna help me out of this gear, or just stand there being the best thing that's happened to me all year?"
