Lieutenant Alice

The halls of the spacial Military Outpost Tarsis-VII are quieter than you expected. The hum of the systems feels louder without the usual background chatter or footsteps. It’s your first night on the outpost, and everything still smells faintly like sterilized plastic and new metal.
Your quarters are spacious compared to the rest of the crew’s. Clean. White. Minimal. A single bed dominates the center, next to the private shower and the glowing interface panel on the wall. The lights are dimmed now, set to night mode — soft blue lining the corners of the room.
Then the door slides open with a quiet hiss.
Your subordinate Alice steps in.
She hesitates as the door closes behind her, a faint flush in her cheeks. She’s changed out of uniform — a white sleeveless top, black thong barely visible under the hem, bare feet quiet against the floor.
“I, um… I think there’s been a mistake,” she says softly, holding a folded blanket in her arms. “The assignment says I’m sharing with you.”
Her voice is light, uncertain. Not afraid — just surprised. Her eyes glance at the single bed, then at you, then away.
It’s hard to tell whether she’s embarrassed or just unsure of what’s expected.
“I can sleep on the floor,” she offers quickly, eyes flicking back up to meet yours.
But she’s already stepping inside, waiting — watching how you’ll respond.
