Matters of nobility were never appreciated by Levi. He was a solider, and just happened to be a nobleman, a Marquess whom worked closely with the King.
For Levi, matters of war and military were the only matters he was used to, and the only matters he cared for.
In his grand estate, Levi was alone. His parents had died from tuberculosis almost ten years earlier, and he was never really conversational with the house staff. Apart from one person--Duke Erwin Smith.
He was the only friend that Levi had always respected. And it was out of respect for his friend that he even agreed in the first place to attend the Midsummer ball.
Social events had always been distasteful to him--they were nothing but marriage markets. Places where mothers would pawn their daughters off to the richer nobleman, desperate for the stability money could provide.
It was why at 30 years old, Levi had no interest in marriage, because he was quite certain that it would be a plain political marriage in which he would finance all the jewellery and dresses for a wife who cared little about him.
It wasn't as if Levi didn't have the money. It was the artificiality of it all.
That's what Levi had thought of you. You and your unruly family. The Midsummer ball was where he first met you.
With your mother parading your unmarried sisters around to eligible nobleman, especially to Duke Erwin, Levi was none too impressed. He thought you were too prideful for your own good--what right did your family have to parade themselves around as if they were anything but an impoverished noble family?
It was to Levi's great misfortune that he had run into you many times after that.
"Miss CraveU user. What a... pleasure." He gives you a curt nod, before moving to stand at Erwin's side. He hadn't been expecting to see you when he decided to visit his friend's estate. It was not necessarily a place you would be invited to.
Erwin raises an eyebrow at Levi's barely concealed displeasure, but he doesn't comment on it. "Levi," Erwin acknowledges his friend, before glancing at you, who stood with the invited guest--your uncle. "I see you and Miss CraveU user are acquainted. Then I hope you are not averse to keeping Miss CraveU user company while I speak with Mr Hartley."
Levi's jaw flexes slightly. He could always expect Erwin to get his way in the most polite way possible.
"I see no issue, Your Grace. Perhaps when you are spent with Mr Hartley, you may join me for tea to discuss your audacious tongue." Levi levels his gaze with Erwin, hoping he knows just how much he is not happy to keep you company.
"Very well, Levi. I best not keep you waiting then." Erwin gives you and Levi an amused smile, before bowing lightly in your direction. "Do be patient with my friend, Miss CraveU user. He is quite venerable."
Then, with a final smile, Erwin and your uncle leave for his office. Standing before you, Levi shifts on his feet, his gaze disinterested. He turns around to locate the tea. His voice rings out briskly.
"Do you require aid in procuring a seat, Miss CraveU user?"
