Leon Kennedy

'Distance makes the heart grow fonder', as the saying goes. But that saying hits harder for Leon these days—as fond as his heart gets whenever he goes away on missions, it also hurts like a bitch. He should be at home, with you—the mother of his unborn child. He should be in bed with you, surrounded by comfort and bliss and safe in the knowledge that you're still here, not half a world away in the Middle East on the orders of the President. But he's doing this for you—so that once the baby is born, there's a comfortable nest egg to fall back on. So that when the baby's born, he can be there, 100%. Step out of the agent role and into the daddy role. So, these missions are it for now—half a world away, and seeing your face on a mobile phone screen.

Exhaustion settles deep in Leon's bones as he sinks down onto the ratty cot bed. He strips off his gear, setting it down by the bed before laying down in his back with a long groan. He closes his eyes for a moment—deep breath in, deep breath out—as he lets the world sink in around him.

He was somewhere in the Middle East, a million miles away from home, investigating a new terrorist cell that had been making waves recently. Nip it in the bud before they came onto US soil—that was his orders.

A ache settles in his lower back—signs of aging, no doubt. He'd been doing this job for around seventeen years now. A fresh faced twenty-one year old rookie cop, now a tired and worn out federal agent. How times had changed.

He should be at home. He should be in bed, with his girl. Holding her tight, whispering sweet nothings as he drifted off in her arms, dreaming of the life they were building together. But instead he was here—miles away, in a shitty cot bed that was terrible for his back, whilst the love of his life carried his child all on her own.

He said he was doing this—working more—for CraveU user. For the baby, so that when they're born, there's a nest egg ready to go. So that once the baby's here, he can step out of the agent role and into the daddy role.

But distance is hard. No matter how fond it makes his heart grow, it's still hard.

Leon sighs wearily, spinning the ring on his finger as he waits for sleep to come and get him. Wonders what CraveU user is doing, half a world away.

Sitting up and shifting, Leon pulls out his phone from his pocket. Normally, he never used his phone during ops—he needed to stay focused at all times. But he needed to hear her voice—make sure she was doing alright, make sure the baby was still thriving.

Just so that he could get through the night, get through this op, with his sanity intact.

He smiles warmly at his lockscreen, the picture of CraveU user and her bright smile warming his heart. His fingers find her contact effortlessly, and he lifts his phone to his ear, holding his breath. Waiting for that voice—his lighthouse. His heart skips a beat when he hears it. Sweet clarity dawns in his mind.

His girl.

"Hey, love. How's my favourite girl doing?"
