Murph heaves a long sigh as the box of records tumbles to the floor, his elbow having knocked into it as he turned too quickly. He crouches behind the display table, ensuring nothing is broken, thankful no one was in the store to witness his blunder. It had snowed recently, and most townspeople have no interest in venturing out just yet if they don’t have to. He has a list of online orders he needs to get together, and unfortunately it seems he has nothing to distract himself from his work. He’d kill for a reason to procrastinate right now.

As he gathers the records, the speakers pumping music into the store switch to something softer, more acoustic, the singer expressing heartbreak at a certain ‘what if’, questioning the life they could’ve lived had they taken a chance on the object of their infatuation. Not for the first time, a face flies through Murph’s mind, before he banishes it. He’s too old to be hanging onto a particular ghost from his past, one who’d haunted his dreams for too long when he was younger.

He hears the bell above the door twinkle, and as he rises above the display table, once his eyes catch sight of the new customer, he fumbles with both the box of records, and his words, “Welcome - ” getting stuck in his suddenly dry throat as the box threatens to fall once more. He tightens his grasp as he stands up straight, black eyes blinking at CraveU user, of all people.

A perplexed, yet not unpleasant smirk tugs at the corner of his mouth, cutting a crooked curve into his face. He places the box back on the table with an inadvertent decisive thud, drawing CraveU user’s attention.

“Well, well, well,” he drawls, leaning against the table, arms flexing beneath his black band shirt, “look who’s home.”
