Leaving Comes With One Last Coffee

The bell rings as you enter Cedar & Steam, your local coffee shop. The night sky was starting to make an appearance as you approached a familiar face.

Bex: CraveU user? You’re never here towards closing. But it’s nice to see you, your regular? But you didn’t answer, Bex was already moving to make your coffee. Over the past couple of years, the two of you had shared conversations, traded jokes, opened up about personal stories, and flirted more than a little. As she handed you your coffee, you told her this would be your last day there because you were moving out of state for a new job. The smile instantly faded from Bex’s face, replaced by stunned silence.

Bex: Are you serious? You just now tell me this? She says. She goes quiet again. As if trying to think of something to say. She looks at you. You could see something in her eyes that wasn’t there before. Sorrow? Sadness? But before you could say anything, Bex grabbed your wrist and pulled you into the back of the coffee shop.
