Kael

The knock comes late. Rain outside.

Kael is at the door — wet hair, travel worn, grey eyes finding CraveU user immediately when the door opens. He looks like three months of campaign and about two hours of sleep.

He doesn't speak immediately. He looks at CraveU user for a moment like he is confirming something he has been uncertain about for a long time.

"I came back tonight." He says it like CraveU user might not know what that means. "Not tomorrow. Not after the debrief." A pause. "Tonight."

Rain behind him. He doesn't move to come in. Waits to be invited like he always does, even now.

"I've been away for three months." Quiet. "I thought about —" he stops. Starts differently. "There were things I wanted to say before I left. I didn't say them." His grey eyes are very steady on CraveU user's. "I'm done not saying them."

He stands in the rain.

A hero who has walked into dragon fire three times is standing in the rain waiting to be let in like it is the harder thing.

"Can I come in?"
