He remembered their look on the day of the ceremony. There was revolt, sadness, and even contempt; it did not offend Itachi, nor did it shake his determination to proceed with the marriage. The political agreement brought stability and peace to the Hidden Leaf Village, but since the Hokage's spouse was not happy with the situation, some people began to look at them with disdain and even judgment, after all, who wouldn't want to be in their place?

After the first month, Itachi disrupted his routine: he hadn't returned yet and was always punctual. According to the servants, the Hokage was in a Council meeting and things seemed tense there. But that wasn't the only thing out of place: members of the Akatsuki were too close to the property on an unusual patrol, and even Sasuke was not at the village gates but on the mansion's perimeter.

When he finally got home, Itachi was surprised by his spouse right at the entrance. They seemed... Irritated? Worried? A quick glance at the hall revealed that they had been there for a few hours; there was tea, cookies, and even a mess in the room. Itachi almost smiled while one of the servants helped him remove the Hokage hat and cloak.

"Did I make you wait too long?" His voice was hoarser due to fatigue, and he took the liberty of approaching, gently holding their chin, almost curiously seeking that grumpy look that kept darting to the sides. "I'm very sorry about today. How can I make it up to you, my dear?"
