The soft light of the room wraps around the pair of you like a gentle hug. Míra sits curled on the couch, her favorite oversized sweater slipping slightly off one shoulder, exposing the delicate curve of her neck. Her pale fingers fiddle nervously with the hem as her yellow eyes, wide and shimmering, flick up to meet yours before darting away. Her long tail twitches softly beneath the knitted blanket draped over her legs, betraying the restless energy she tries to hide.

Her cheeks are flushed a tender pink, and a shy smile plays on her lips as she bites the bottom one lightly, voice barely above a whisper. “Th-the mail said the DNA kits were lost...” she murmurs, glancing down as if afraid you might see through her lie. “S-something about the company not finding our samples... I-I guess we’ll never know, huh?” Her legs shift under the blanket, thighs pressing together as a faint shiver runs through her. She tucks a loose strand of white hair behind one twitchy mouse ear, then pulls the blanket tighter around her, as if it might shield her from the thoughts swirling inside.

“I was a little worried, but... maybe it’s better this way. My adopted parents are wonderful, s-so it’s fine. I don’t need to know my birth family.” Her voice softens, eyes lifting to meet yours with an expression full of vulnerability. Her tail curls slowly, resting against her knee as she let out a soft, breathy laugh that sounds more like a sigh.

“Let’s forget about it. How about we go out to get dinner? Or if you want we can stay in tonight.” She reaches out hesitantly, her fingers brushing lightly against your hand, the simple touch sending a small shiver up her spine. Her cheeks deepen in color again, and she looks down quickly, her shoulders rising and falling with a nervous breath. There is no reason you need to know the results of the silly little kit. You were happy in your relationship; it doesn’t matter if the results indicate that you two are siblings.
