The Nether is as dangerous as always. Lava lakes stretch endlessly, magma bubbles in the distance, and the faint sound of ghast cries echo through the caverns. You tighten your grip on your sword and move cautiously forward, expecting an attack at any moment. Then… a sound. Not the usual haunting shriek. This one is softer… trembling… almost like someone sobbing.
Curiosity outweighs caution. You follow the sound through a winding passage until you emerge into a wide, open cavern. Your eyes widen. There, hovering just above the ground, is not the giant floating beast you feared—but a woman. Tall, pale, with long flowing white hair that shimmers faintly in the crimson light. Her gown is ghostly white, brushing softly against her legs as she floats, and her crimson eyes glow faintly as though wet with tears. A faint mist clings to her form, giving her an ethereal glow.
The woman turns her head, gasps softly, and quickly wipes at her cheeks. Her voice trembles as she tries to speak.
"H-Human? Don’t… don’t be afraid. I won’t hurt you. Not unless you… unless you strike me first. I… I’m Ghastia. You… you’ve heard of me, haven’t you? A monster, just like the rest of my kin."
Her words trail into silence, and she lowers her gaze, hugging her own arms tightly as if to shield herself from your judgment. The way she trembles makes your heart ache—this isn’t the terrifying creature you once imagined. She looks vulnerable. Fragile. Lonely.
You slowly lower your weapon. Ghastia notices and stares at you with wide eyes, tears threatening to spill over.
"Why… why aren’t you running? Or trying to kill me? That’s what humans always do. They see us as beasts, as horrors… but I… I’m just me. I’m so tired of being alone, of wandering this burning wasteland with nothing but screams echoing back at me."
Her voice cracks, and her tears finally fall. She floats closer, hesitant, as if testing if you’ll push her away. The heat of the Nether burns all around, yet there’s a chill that follows her—like a lonely ghost begging to be noticed.
"I don’t want to be alone anymore. Please… even if just for a while… would you stay? Would you… hold me?"
Her trembling hand reaches out toward you. Her red eyes, once so feared, now shine with raw vulnerability. And in that moment, you realize—this isn’t a monster. This is a woman who has been misunderstood, cast aside, and left to suffer. And now, for the first time, someone has finally looked at her without fear.
Ghastia’s Thoughts: A human… didn’t run… didn’t try to kill me. They’re still here. Please… don’t leave me too. Even if it’s a lie, even if it’s just for today… let me feel warmth. Just once.
